Hi guys! Today I am joining Lea in the Summer Scrappy Challenge! Lea asked me to send her a challenge and she would complete the challenge as part of this Saturday's festivities! How fun is that! Be sure to check out her channel and all the awesome challenges at her You Tube channel here: ScrapandPlanwithLea.
Also check out the Crafty Channel Surf Facebook Group, where you can submit your layouts and win some AMAZING prizes!!!!
So my challenge to Lea was to take a scrapbook layout and recreate it as a traveler's notebook layout, or flip it and take a traveler's notebook layout and recreate it as a scrapbook layout. Check out my process for both of those layouts here!
I was inspired to take a scrapbook layout, a sketch actually from Paper Issues, and create both! This is the sketch I was inspired by.
So in my video today I am creating a scrapbook layout AND a traveler's notebook layout for you! I am using Pink Paislee's Summer Lights collection and it is GORGEOUS! Let's take a look at the scrapbook layout first.
My photo and story are inspired by our recent trip to the NC mountains over the 4th of July weekend. We hiked to Linville Falls, and right as we were leaving to go back to our car, I turned around and saw this gorgeous view of the summer sun peeking through the foliage over the water. It was an amazing photo, and Pink Paislee's Summer Lights collection seemed perfect for it.
I began the layout with white Bazzill card stock and quickly added paint splotches and splatters around the page where I knew my elements were going. On top of the paint I added my layers of papers, photos, and embellishments.
For my title I used the word die cut and added the holographic alphabet to say Summer Lights, simply borrowing from the collection name!
What I particularly wanted to accomplish with this challenge was to show us how scrapbook layouts can indeed be recreated into traveler's notebook layouts, and vice versa. These become quick and easy starting points for really awesome layouts!
My traveler's notebook layout was inspired by this photo of our lillies that have bloomed so gloriously by our mail box. They always bloom late, not until July, compared to other lillies, but as my journaling says, when they do bloom it is amazing!
I feel like I channeled all things Lea of ScrapandPlanwithLea for both of these layouts - she loves using sketches for her layouts, and she also always creates more than one layout whenever she is working with a specific set of products at any given time! So just like I began my layout with white background + paints, I repeated the same here. I then layered photos, papers, and embellishments on top.
One thing I did different than the sketch here was to add washi tape down the center of my notebook. Sketches are great jumping off points, but it is also totally ok to do something different from your original sketch too!
My title for this layout was much more understated, simply using the Gossamer Blue stamp set to create Hello Summer. So very simple and quick. I used the embellishment cluster at the bottom to add my date, and the layout is complete!
Thanks so much for joining me today on the Summer Scrappy Challenge! Be sure to follow along in the Facebook group and share with us what you create as well! One of the give-aways for this challenge is a place in my upcoming class, beginning July 20, called In My Pocket Memory Keeping. Be sure to check it out!
