Lesson 03 Process Videos

So let's take a look at the process videos for this lesson. For the first video I am sharing a layout about more sports activities that our kids participated in that year, and the second is a fun layout about a day trip to the Farmer's Market.

Clearly at this time our children were participating in lots of sports activities, and I think these are particularly fun to share! I have to admit that it could get a little tiresome, having sports page after sports page, but my primary goal in this album is to represent our major activities of that year. So I recognize I cannot go back and be present and photograph every game and every practice (nor is that necessary, unless that is what you love doing!), but I can create a layout about each child and each activity one time to represent this particular year.

This layout features Nick and Natalie playing soccer at the YMCA. These are spring soccer leagues and they both did those for quite a few years! Just like I did before, I repeated the idea of using black & white with color on the boy side, and then the same colors emphasizing pink on the girl side.

I chose the Studio Calico Silver Lake Lodge Documenter Kit for this layout. There is lots of green in all of these photos, so the colors in this kit contrast well. I quickly added the bright yellow tag to the title card and used the alphabet stickers to create a simple title.

My embellishments are actually from Gossamer Blue, as there were no die cuts with the Documenter Kit. I actually layer my kits quite often to give some contrast and mix it up a bit. Plus I really like using my products. Leave them out on your desk so you can easily see them and use them up!

One of my approaches to journaling has always been to add small bits to several different cards around the page. One or two sentences on several cards adds up to tell the story as a whole. This makes it feel less intimidating, but still gets these stories on the page. All the parts make up the whole.

Labels always make it so easy to add another thought or encouragement to the pages. I love these layouts so much because they allow me to continue encouraging our kids long after these particular activities have occurred. I see all of these layouts, and each of these written sentiments, as love notes to each of them. That is always my approach to the journaling here, and this makes for a great starting point.

Natalie's soccer is on the right hand side, and boy is she adorable here. She was still quite tiny, at 5, but never fear, she was a force to be reckoned with on the field. The SOCCER word was already there, I had added it long ago for some random reason, using some Basic Grey alphas. So I left them and they still tie in with her red uniform shirt and the reds, corals, and pinks in the kit.

I did include a Week card here, but I have to prequalify by stating that the dates and week are wrong! Somehow I have managed to confuse myself, but for now I am just going to leave it. At the end of the class we will Tie Up Loose Ends, and I will take care of that then. I still love this simple card and the alphabet with date stamp!

So I mentioned that Natalie was quite the force to be reckoned with, and I have included some of that in my journaling! She is small but so scrappy, and she is the first to talk smack on that field. She learned quickly to get control of the ball and if anybody took it, she was going to give them heck for it! We still laugh over that, and yes, she will still talk smack over any game.

Look at all four of them together! Man, these photos are precious and every layout I complete makes me recommit to continue photographing and documenting. I am so glad you are along for the journey! Let's look at the next process video!
